The ancient city of Labranda, estimated to have been built in the 6th century BC, is 14 km away from Milas. Mausolus, the second king of the Kayra region, was born here and made it the capital when he became king, then moved the capital to Halicarnassus. In the archaeological excavations and the works found, it was understood that there was a war between the Carians and Persians in 497 BC and that the Carians lost this war.
