Sagalassos Ancient City, located within the borders of Burdur province, is located in the region known as Pisidia in ancient times, 7 km from Aglasun district and 41 km from Antalya, 115 km from Isparta. It is known that the first settlement in the ancient city, which is next to a mountainous area, dates back to 1000 BC. Throughout history, the ancient city was home to the Phrygians, Lydians, Persians, Hellenistic period, Romans, Seljuks and Ottomans.
The structures of the ancient city have been preserved very well and have survived to the present day. The terraced structure of the ancient city which has magnificent architectural features is the most striking structure. In addition to the architecture of the ancient city of Segalassos, it is also the longest ceramic production centre in ancient times for a thousand years.
The reasons for the establishment of the ancient city on the steep slopes are the security concerns, the abundance of water resources, the availability of resources suitable for the construction of housing products, especially ceramics, such as the abundance of minerals. The world's highest theatre of 9 thousand people, agora, baths, temples, collonaded street, city villas, water canals, fountains, magnificent architecture and many structures is definitely recommended to be seen. Many artefacts from the ancient city of Sagalassos are exhibited in the Burdur museum for protection.
The ancient city, which can be reached by private vehicles, can be visited between 09:00 and 19:00 in the summer season and between 08:30 and 17:30 in the winter season, while museum cardholders can visit for free.
