Arsameia Archeological Site

Arsameia, which is known as the summer administration centre of the Kingdom of Kommagene, is located between Kocahisar village and Damlacık village of Kahta district of Adıyaman province. The ancient city is 60 km far from Adiyaman and 18 km from Nemrut Mountain National Park. The city Arsameia was founded in the 3rd century BC by Arsames, the ancestor of the Kommagenians. There are many steles, relief sculptures and the biggest inscription of Anatolia on the ceremonial road to the south of the ruins. In the place where the inscription is located, there are 150 steps, the ruins of the palace just above it and a passage that is used as a temple. The relief of King Antiochos and Herakles shaking hands is among the most striking works in the ruins.
