The ancient city, located on the Bodrum-Milas highway, was once known as Gereme, and is now known as Ören Gökova. Although the ancient city of Keramos, meaning pottery, had an important place in the Roman period, it lost its importance in later periods.
Among the ruins that can be seen in the ancient city today are the city walls and two important temples.
