Milet (Miletos) Ancient City

It was founded as a port city of the ancient city of Miletus, whose first settlement date was estimated to date back to 1600 BC. Today, the ancient city remained within 12 km from the sea. The city, which was a port city at the time it was founded, lived in a golden age and passed into the hands of the Persians after the Lade War in 494 BC and lost its importance. According to the mythological stories told about the city, it was said that it was founded by Miletus, the son of Akakallis, the daughter of Minos, the king of Crete.

Among the places to be seen in the ancient city of Miletus are the ancient theatre, the harbour at the back of the theatre, the hippodrome and the baths under the water are among the ancient ruins worth seeing. History (Historia) means that the ancient city of Didim is 20 km away and for those who want to go from Aydin you can go with the yellow 273 buses from Didim, there is also minibus you can travel with it.

Those with private vehicles can go to the ancient city.

Milet Antique Theater: It was built by the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius and has a capacity of 18 thousand people. The 150-meter-long antique theatre is designed for the nobles, government officials, clergy, and other important people of the period and has great acoustics. Museum cardholders can visit the ancient city for a free.
