Physkos, an important port city of the ancient Carian region, means Doğakenti in Carian language. It is estimated that the first settlement year of the ancient city dates back to 3000 BC. The ruins that survived from the ancient city are found on the Asar hill to the north of Marmaris. The city walls on the acropolis are among the remains that survived to the present day. Like all Carian settlements, the ancient city of Physkos is built on a high slope. The fact that the ancient city of Fiskos has its own money is accepted as an indication that the city had an important place in ancient times.
