Selimiye

Located 45 km from Marmaris, Selimiye is located between Marmaris and Bodrum. The name was also called Kızılköy because of the red colour of the sky at sunset.Selimiye, which also has remained from the ancient period, has three castles and the ruins of the Hellenistic city walls on the southeast hills of Selimiye. The artefacts from the wrecks found around Selimiye are also exhibited in Bodrum underwater museum.    

With its magnificent nature, clean sea and beaches, it is especially among the frequented spots of blue cruise boats and yachts.There are also ruins from the ancient period of Hydas around Selimiye .

How to get to Selimiye?

Those who want to go to Selimiye should first come to Marmaris.There are direct buses from all over Turkey to Marmaris. During the summer season, there are minibuses from Marmaris to Selimiye from 10:30 am to 19:00 in the evening. The nearest airport is Dalaman Airport. From the airport, you can reach Marmaris by airport

Things to do in Selimiye:

Among the points to be seen in Selimiye are the ruins of the ancient city of Hydas, the ruins of 3 fortresses at different points (one of the ruins is on the Selimiye hill, the other is on the Sarıkaya hill and the last one is in Kızıl village neighbourhood).It is possible to see the ancient city walls on the southeast hills of Selimiye Bay, 100 meters from the coast, with a lighthouse, church and ancient theatre.

Kamelya Island

The island of Kamelya, which is close to Selimiye, can be reached by boat from Selimiye. It is among the first stops of boat tours.There is also a monastery on which is not known when it was built and there is a small chapel left behind.Inside the chapel, there is a fresco of Jesus Christ. Black and white stones around the chapel attract visitors to the island. There are also goats on the island and a tree which is called as wish tree and people wish by hanging papers on the branches.It is recommended that those who come to Kamelya by boat to snorkel around the island and see the underwater beauties.
