The ancient city of Tabai, which is 78 km away from the centre of Denizli, is one of the city- states established in Anatolia after Alexander the Great. The ancient city of Tabai has been home to many civilizations from the Hellenistic period to the present. In ancient times, silver coins were first printed in its name, then bronze coins. Among the coins minted are the figures of Zeus, Apollo, Athena and Dionysus and on the other side are Tabenon inscriptions and bulls and horns of fertility symbolizing the city. Established in a rocky area, the city looks like a natural castle. The ruins that survived from the ancient city include the Roman bath, the mosque from the Ottoman period, inscriptions, fountains and graves. Those who want to go to the ancient city can reach the city via Denizli-Muğla road by coming to the centre of the district. There is also a bus and minibus transportation from Denizli to the castle district.
