Akyaka Houses

Wooden houses, which stand out with their historical texture and different architecture, are unique to Akyaka and have been protected. Almost all of the wooden houses adorned by bougainvillaea have beautiful gardens. The architecture of the houses, which have a magnificent view, belongs to the painter and artist Nail Cakirhan.

Kadin Azmagi River

Kadin Azmagi river, which resembles a 1200-meter-long natural aquarium that flows through the trees and reeds right by Akyaka, flows into the Gulf of Gokova and offers a magnificent view for its visitors with its 8-12 degrees water, underwater vegetation, fishes, turtles, ducks swimming on the river and otters. There are also boat tours on the stream, which is fed from 400 different sources. Akyaka Rock Tombs

In addition to its natural beauties, Akyaka stands out with its hundreds of years of historical ruins. The ruins of the Idyma ancient city, which is approximately 2500 years old, are also in and around Akyaka. There are temple-looking rock tombs in the area between Akyaka and Gokova. Those who want to see the rock tombs should go to the Kozlu neighbourhood of Gokova.

During the infrastructure works carried out in Akyaka in 2001, a chamber tomb was found by chance. Seven human skeletons, as well as oil lamps, bowls, jugs, bronze coins, bronze locks, strigils, bronze jewellery, glass vessels and gold earrings,  were recovered from the grave. During the excavations made in the Catalcam street, it was found that the grave was used at different times during the 600-year period. Rock tombs and chamber tombs can be visited free of charge.
