The Yeşil Mosque, known as the symbol of İznik, was built by Halil Paşa, the Grand Vizier of Çandarlı. The mihrab of the mosque, built with magnificent stone workmanship, is also remarkable with its turquoise, green and purple coloured tiles. Unfortunately, only the mosque remains from the area built in the form of a complex with baths, madrasas, mosques and accommodation. The historical mosque, which was destroyed and damaged during the Greek occupation, was restored between 1956-1969 and 2015, respectively.
