The temple of Apollo Lermonos, which is 4 km away from Bahadırlar village, is built on a small hill overlooking the Menderes valley called Asartepe. The temple has a very important place in the history of religions because the inscriptions called Katagraphe, which means to assign people’s properties to god, are only seen in this temple.
The temple, built by slaves and dedicated to the god of Apollo, was found in 1887, 35 km from Hierapolis on the south bank of the Menderes River. The foundations of the structure indicate the Hellenistic upperparts and the Roman period. Columns seen on the south side of the temple indicate that the structure was peripteros. A part of the portico located to the west of the temple is still standing.
The pottery on the hill is considered to be an altar in the name of the mother goddess Kybele from the Phrygian period. It is not known exactly what kind of worship of the sanctuary is followed, and it is understood from the researches and findings that people come here to perform their normal worship.
Those who want to go for a visit to the temple first come to Denizli’s Çal district and then come to the Bahadırlar neighbourhood and go to the temple.
