Apollonia Salbace (Medet Mound)

There is no definite information and documents about the foundation of the ancient city of Apollonia, but the researches on the findings revealed that the first settlement dates back to the Bronze Age. The city, which was named Apollonia in the Hellenistic period, lived its most glorious period in the Roman era. The ancient city of Apollonia Salbace and the Medet Mound are located within the borders of the village of Medet on the plain 7 km west of the Tavas district of Denizli. The ancient city of Apollonia is one of the ancient cities with good economy and prosperity in ancient times as it has access to Tabia road to Caria region, Sebastopolis road to the south, Lycian region to the south and Tavas road to Phrygia region to the east. It was seen that the city printed coins in its name between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD and included divine motifs on the coins.
