Physkos (Fiskos) Ancient City
Physkos, an important port city of the ancient Carian region, means Doğakenti in Carian language. It is estimated that the first settlement year of the ancient city dates back to 3000 BC. The ruins that survived from the ancient city are found on the Asar hill to the north of Marmaris. The city walls on the acropolis are among the remains that survived to the present day. Like all Carian settlements, the ancient city of Physkos is built on a high slope. The fact that the ancient city of Fiskos has its own money is accepted as an indication that the city had an important place in ancient times.
Marmaris Amos Ancient City
Amos, one of the most important ancient cities in the Marmaris region, was founded in the 2nd century BC on the Asarlık hill between Turunc town and Kumlubük bay.

Marmaris Castle, built–in 2000 BC, has strategic importance in ancient times since it is at a point where the transition between the sea and the Mediterranean Sea is provided. It was renewed and expanded during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent. The castle, which was damaged by the bombing of the French navy in the first world war, was restored between 1989 and 1990 and turned into a museum in 1991. There are 18 rooms in total including 2 archaeology halls, an ethnography hall and four art galleries. The Archaeological Museum of Marmaris is located in the castle of Marmaris and exhibits pottery, glassware, coins and ornaments found in Knidos, Burgazada and Hisarönü ruins, as well as historical artefacts from the Ottoman period.
