Attuda Ancient City

Attuda is located 17 km southwest of Sarayköy district of Denizli province. It was a border city between Caria and Phrygia in ancient times and the road connecting Tripolis and Laodikeia to Aphrodisias passes through Attuda. Although there is no definite information about the establishment of the city, it is estimated that the city was founded during the Hellenistic period. It is seen that the city, which was founded on the hill surrounded by two streams, was mostly established for defence and control of transportation routes. In the ancient city, pre-imperial coins were minted. On one side of the coins, there were portraits of the gods and rulers on the other side of Attuda. Since Hisarköy is located in the area where the ancient city is located today, it is not possible to see any ruins of the ancient city, but artefacts from this area are exhibited in Denizli Museum.
