Didim is a resort town on Turkey’s attached to the Aydın province Didim, which was formerly known as Yenihisar, is visited by local and foreign tourists especially during the summer months. Its location and historical places are one of the main factors in choosing Didim as a holiday destination. Didim, which was a small village until 1967, became a district in 1991 with the development of tourism since 1980.

With the development of tourism, accommodation, food and beverage and more facilities were built in Didim. In addition to tourism, some of the people earn their living from agriculture or ovine livestock. Agricultural products include wheat, cotton, figs, strawberries and grapes. Summers are hot and dry, winters are warm and rainy in Didim, 40% of the forest is considered as a holiday centre with plenty of oxygen.            

Didim, which dates back to 800 BC, has been home to many civilizations and empires. Didim, which has a very rich history, includes the temple of Apollo and the ancient cities of Didyma, Miletus and Priene known by many.

When to visit Didim?

In Didim where the Mediterranean climate is seen, hot and dry winters are hot and rainy in summer and the average annual temperature is 18 degrees. While the months of July are the hottest months in Didim, where humidity is quite low in the summer months, January is the coldest month in Didim with an average of 11 degrees. From April to November, you can swim in Didim.

Since the opening of the tourism season, a significant increase has been observed in the population of Didim since July, August and September are the busiest months. April, May, September and October are recommended for those who want to spend a quiet holiday, while those who want to stay in Didim are advised to book in advance.

How to get to Didim?

Transportation to Didim by Land:
Those who want to come to Didim with private vehicles from İzmir direction should follow İzmir-Selçuk-Söke direction, while those coming from Fethiye direction should follow Fethiye-Dalaman-Köyceğiz-Akyaka-Muğla-Milas-Didim direction.

There are direct buses to Didim for those who want to come to Didim by using intercity buses. Those who cannot find a bus to Didim directly should come to the centre of Aydın and from there they can reach to Didim with minibuses departing from Aydın. 

Transportation to Didim by plane:
The nearest airports to Didim are Milas, Izmir and Dalaman Airports. There are flights from both domestic line and international line to all three airports in summer and winter. Passengers coming to the airport can easily reach Didim by taking HAVAŞ shuttles, renting a car or taking a taxi to the city centres.

Didim city transport:
There are many options that Didim holidaymakers can use for their trips and transportation to the settlements or historical areas in and around Didim. Among the options, minibuses are the first and the cheapest means of transportation. The minibuses, which start to work at 06:30 in the morning, work until 02:00 in the summer season and work until 23:00 in winter. Another way to visit Didim and its surroundings is by renting a car or bicycle. For those who enjoy cycling, there are special cycling routes and long-distance cycling routes.  

Accommodation in Didim

There are accommodation options suitable for all kinds of a budget for those who want to stay in Didim. Options include ultra-luxury hotels, 4 and 5-star all-inclusive hotels, boutique hotels, apart-hotels, hostels, rental apartments and villas for rent. Didim hotels in the centre of the coastline and Altinkum and Akbuk are also among the preferred places to stay. For those who do not want to stay in the hotel, there are camping areas in and around Didim. Due to the intensity in June and September, those who want to make a holiday in Didim are recommended to book in advance. 

What to eat in Didim?

With the influence of tourism, it is easy to find seafood dishes in Didim as well as different kinds of international cuisine. File and Mediterranean cuisine are dominant in Didim, the dishes of the region include olive oil dishes, leaf wrap, sea cowpea, black-eyed peas with olive oil, purslane salad, stuffed zucchini blossom, cassava, meaty chickpea stew and herbal food made from local herbs stand out. Didim serves Turkish cuisine and is suitable for all kinds of budgets.

Markets Established in Didim:

It is possible to find all kinds of products easily in the bazaar visited by domestic and foreign tourists and local people. In addition to the vegetables, fruits and food products grown in the region, it is very easy to find textile products and different local souvenirs in the markets established in the basement and its vicinity. Bazaar open in the early hours of the morning continue until the evening.

Monday Market: Efeler neighbourhood is established every Monday.

New neighbourhood Wednesday market: The new neighbourhood is established every Wednesday.

Friday Market: It is located in Çamlık neighbourhood next to Esentepe Mosque.

Didim Saturday Market: New neighbourhood is established every Saturday.

Sunday (British market): Altinkum Palabıyık locality every Sunday at 05:00 in the market established by the British citizens living in the region for the second-hand electronics and different products are referred to by this name. 

 

Didim Shopping:

It is possible to find all kinds of products from souvenirs, jewellery products, handcrafts, textile goods in the shops which are open in the centre of Didim and Altinkum until late in the summer months. It is recommended to buy lop fig, lop fig jam, village wine made from grapes grown in the region, village bread, tomato paste, jam and dried herbs as a gift to the visitors of Didim bazaar. In the Didyma shopping centre in Altinkum, it is possible to find products of many world-renowned brands.

Didim Nightlife

Didim night entertainment despite the places other holiday places having little calmer environment according to a disco in Turkey, bars and nightclubs. Bars with live music, karaoke bars, folk bars and taverns are available until late at night, especially for those looking for night entertainment. For those who want to spend a quiet night, they can spend time walking along Altınkum beach and sitting nearby the sea.
