The history of the ancient city dates back to 2000 BC and is also known as the city where the mythological hero Bellafronte, known with his flying winged horse Pegasus, lived. The ancient city, which is 45 km away from Fethiye, is one of the 6 big cities of the Lycian Federation and the sports centre of the Union. It is understood from the archaeological findings that it is the oldest city in Lycia and its foundation dates back to 200 BC. It is known that besides the most beautiful house type tombs of the Lycian region in the Necropolis in the ancient city, the king type tomb was dedicated to Bellaforonte.
The Acropolis hill, which provides a natural shelter due to its steep slope with a height of about 500 meters, is surrounded by walls. Among the ruins to be seen in the ancient city is the theatre, agora ruins, inscribed tombs, baths, Kronos temple, large baths, acropolis, stadium, rock tombs and church ruins. Those who want to go to the ancient city which is on the UNESCO world heritage list can reach the ruins of Tlos in Yaka village after 13 km from Kemer town on Fethiye-Korkuteli road. Museum cardholders visit the ancient city free of charge.
Visiting hours of the ancient city of Tlos: From April 15th to October 2nd between 09:00 and 20:00. From October 3rd to April 14th between 08:00 and 17:00.
