Xanthos Ancient City(Kaş / Kalkan)

The city of Xanthos, which also assumed the centre of the Lycian Union, is 68 km away from Fethiye, 20 km from Kalkan, 50 km from Kaş and 235 km from Antalya. It was the largest administrative centre of Lycia in ancient times. B.C. The city, which was independent until it came under the Persian rule in 545, was completely burned down about a century later. After this fire, the city was rebuilt, even in the 2nd century BC. has assumed the task of being the capital of the Lycian Union in the century. Later, the city, which was under the control of the Romans, came under Byzantine rule and remained under the Byzantine rule until the Arab raids in the 7th century. This centre, which shows the influences of Lycian traditions, Hellenistic and Roman periods, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988. Museum card is valid in the city. Those who want to go to the ancient city of Antalya direction should first come to Kınık town near Kalkan. From here it is very easy to find the ancient city by following the signs. Buses departing from Antalya bus terminal and going from Fethiye to Fethiye pass by the ancient city. 

  Those who come from the opposite direction should come to Kınık town via Fethiye again. The ancient city of Xanthos is also the largest ancient city of Kaş.

The opening hours of the ancient city are open every day of the week: April 15 to October 2, 08:30 to 18:30 From 3 October to 14 April from 08:30 to 17:00.
