It is estimated that the first settlement started in 885 BC in Halfeti, some of which was flooded by the Birecik dam. Halfeti, which is 112 km away from Şanlıurfa, has been home to many civilizations throughout history. Halfeti with its very calm structure is the 9rh Cittaslow city of Turkey since 2013 and it offers the opportunity of a 1-hour boat tour on the dam lake to its visitors. Those who participate in the boat tour can see the flooded village of Savaşan and the mosque minaret standing on the water. Transportation to Halfeti is provided by buses or tour companies from Şanlıurfa.
