Tarsus Museum

Tarsus Museum was first opened in Kubat Pasha Madrasah in 1971. The museum was moved to its present building in 1998 and has two large halls. In addition to the historical artefacts uncovered during the excavations in Mersin and Tarsus, a collection of coins from various periods of the ancient age, war materials from the Ottoman period, rifles and pistols are exhibited. The museum is open from 09:00 to 19:00 in summer and from 08:00 to 17:00 in winter.

Tarsus Waterfall

Tarsus Waterfall, which is located on Berdan Kydnos Stream, north of Tarsus province centre, is one of the most frequently visited places of Tarsus for people to cool off especially in summer monthsThe area where the waterfall falls from a height of approximately 5 meters was used as a necropolis during the Roman period. The tombs in this area carved into the rocks were unable to withstand the strong currents of the river and were destroyed. The graves, which cannot be seen in winter due to the density of the water, emerge with the decrease of water in the summer.

Seven Sleepers (Eshab-ı Kehf) Cave

The cave, which is considered sacred for both Muslims and Christians, is located in the village of Dedeler, 14 km from Tarsus. According to the belief, 7 young people came to this cave to escape from death if they wouldn’t accept idolatry and they slept for 300 years.

Tarsus Taşkuyu Cave

Discovered in 2006, the cave is located about 10 km northwest of Taşkuyu Village of Tarsus. The cave is made of carbon fibre marble and limestone. The total length of the cave is 470 meters and the temperature was determined between 19 and 24 degrees. Taşkuyu cave is located 500 meters from EshabKehf cave. Most of the cave is covered with stalactites, stalagmites, columns and dense stalactite formations and they have different colours of milkwhite, brown, red and yellow. The interior of the cave is illuminated and there are walking platforms, viewing platforms, lighting and promotional signs.

St. Paul Memorial Museum

St. Paul, a very important person for Christianity, was born in Tarsus in the 3rd century AD. Having met Jesus, Paul learned about Christianity and announced that he would follow Jesuspath. He travelled to many different places in order to spread the religion of Christianity. The museum, which is built on an area of 460 square meters, is located in Şehitkerim neighbourhood in Tarsus. Within the museum, there are frescoes of Jesus, Yohannes, Mattias, Marcos and Lucas, and an eye motif and bird figure. It is open to visitors between 08:00 and 19:00 in summer and between 08:00 and 17:00 in winter Museum cardholders can enter the ancient city free of charge.
